Aikonsulting is a privately-held Belgian company specialized in applied artificial intelligence.
We design and implement software systems to solve problems where traditional approaches fail.
Amongst our expertise domains are business rule management systems, knowledge representation, optimization problems,
automated deduction, logic, planning and machine learning.
In the last few years, Aikonsulting was involved in many success stories, amongst which are the creation of a fully autonomous six-legged robot, design and development of true massive multi-agent systems, the development of complex decision and analysis systems for process management and the centralization of business logic into business rules systems.

Although AI sounds like a far future research only technology, 90 % of all companies have problems that can be solved correctly or better by AI techologies. The main problem is dual: first the problem must be identified as an AI problem, next the appriate solution method must be selected for it. Sometimes, a company can face a problem that is known to be unsolvable (in finite time and limited resources). Aikonsulting can help to recognize these problems, so you don't waste expensive resources. Moreover, instead of giving up on the problem, we can investigate how to transform the problem into a tractable problem, eg. by limiting the application domain.

Aikonsulting provides a full range of solutions and services to facilitate the acquisition, representation and engineering of knowledge for your company. Sometimes hard problems can be easily solved by just choosing the right representation.
AUTOMATED DEDUCTION AND LOGIC
we provide consulting for reasoning under uncertainty and non-monotonic reasoning. Logical and automated reasoning methods are used for the intelligent processing of large ontologies, decision making based on knowledge bases of structured data and formal specification and verification of web services. An important part of the systems development process concerns reasoning about the behaviour of systems in order to verify the correctness of the behaviour.
OPTIMIZATION PROBLEMS
Optimization problems are problems to find the best solution from all feasible solutions. It inludes not only finding solutions but being able to find the best of them. Often these problems are NP-complete, which means that they cannot be solved in polynomial time in any known way. By using specific knowledge of the domain and problem context, we usually succeed in coming up with a working solution for your problem.

MACHINE LEARNING

When do you need AI?
Although it is not feasible to give a complete list of all characteristics of artificial intelligence solvable problems, here are some rules of thumbs when your problem probably needs an AI solution
Typical properties
- There is not much information or structure on the problem domain
- The problem domain is changing constantly
- You can recognize a good solution but have no idea how to compute one
- The problem uses a lot of human reasoning and expert knowledge
- The problem is normally accomplished manually, by a human expert
- The problem is usually solved by using heuristics
- The problem involves lot of decisions and/or they are usually made based on uncertain, incomplete, probabilistic, or fuzzy knowledge
- The problem cannot be automated using conventional software
- The problem uses a lot of human reasoning and expert knowledge
- Your current solution can be automated for small problems but fails or compuationally explodes whenever the problem size is growing
Examples
Most AI applications today are not standalone systems like autonomous robots but they add knowledge and reasoning to existing applications, databases, and environments, to make them friendlier, smarter, and more sensitive to user behavior and changes in their environments
- Financial Transactions: Credit card providers, telecom companies, mortgage lenders, banks, and governments employ AI systems to detect fraud and expedite financial transactions, with daily transaction volumes in the billions. Fraudulous patterns are learnt automatically and used to detect new cases
- Configuration AI systems configure custom computer, communications, and manufacturing systems, guaranteeing the purchaser maximum efficiency and minimum setup time. These systems detect order incompletenesses and inconsistencies
- Medical advice AI-based systems assist physicians in many kinds of medical diagnosis, ranging from patient monitoring to illness recognition and medication advice

Stefaan Decorte
Stefaan set up Aikonsulting in 2006 to facilitiate the buy-in of expertise in Artificial Intelligence, which is so difficult to find. He completed a Master's degree in IT at the University of Leuven (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven) in 1990 and a master's degree in Artificial Intelligence in 1992. In 1997 he finished his PhD. on the termination characteristics of executable logic. During that time, Stefaan has written several outstanding papers on executable logic, some of which are still being regarded as the reference paper in that area. Since his PhD., he has worked on several future research based companies, that were dependent on intelligent approaches. During these years he has contributed on intelligent emergent behaviors for fully autonomous robots, collaborative intelligence for massive multi-agent systems and . It was during these years when when he realised that not only high end companies need artificial intelligence solutions but almost every company faces the same challenges. These challenges include planning, learning, optimisation, search, ... Instead of each company trying to solve these problems in their own ad hoc way, it is more efficient to let the problem be analysed and solved by a expert company.Investor relations
